Divorce Law

 
The law firm of Melissa F. Brown, LLC, handles uncontested and contested divorces, as well as custody, visitation, alimony, child support, and property division cases. The firm also handles relocation cases, enforcement proceedings, modification proceedings, and drafting Settlement Agreements.

We listen to our clients and work to accomplish their goals by providing advice and counsel based upon Melissa´s experience and knowledge gleaned from many years practicing in the family law courts of South Carolina. Melissa´s counsel and opinion are held in high esteem by legal professionals and national organizations.

The American Bar Association has sought her leadership and selected her to co-chair several committees and to act as a judge for national legal writing contests. She has held executive positions on the South Carolina Family Law Council since 1999, including chair and Delegate to the South Carolina House of Delegates. She was also chair when the Section published the first South Carolina Family Lawyer´s Tool Kit. She is often sought out by broadcast and print media for her opinions about various family law issues.

Melissa frequently lectures throughout the state and the nation to judges and attorneys about family law matters. She has published more than two dozen articles printed in national and state journals, as well as continuing legal education booklets. She is a certified family court mediator. A native Charlestonian, Melissa is a graduate of Charleston Day School, Ashley Hall School, the University of Virginia, and the University of South Carolina School of Law. In law school, she was a member of the Order of the Barristers, the National Moot Court Team, and the Moot Court Bar.

Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, Todd, and children, Ellen Hudson and Fleetwood. She is actively involved in St. Michael´s Church and the Ashley Hall Alumni Board. She is a former board member for the Center for Women.
